## The numbers: WordPress market share is slipping

For more than a decade, WordPress only seemed to go up. [W3Techs](https://w3techs.com/technologies/details/cm-wordpress) data shows it peaked around 43.6% of all websites in early 2025, then entered a sustained decline, roughly 41.9% by mid-2026, with six consecutive months of contraction reported by [Search Engine Journal](https://www.searchenginejournal.com/wordpress-market-share-in-decline/576042/).

WordPress is still enormous: it runs a majority of sites that use a known CMS. But the trend matters. After years of “default choice” growth, teams are evaluating alternatives more often, especially for marketing sites, SaaS landing pages, and products that need speed and control without a plugin stack.
